WHY STAVE SHELLS?
Wood used to build stave shells is a more natural form than ply drum shells or steam bent shells because the staves are solid-- no plies or stress from bending. The grain pattern is vertical which puts the bearing edge on the grain rather than running parallel with the grain. This gives the edge more strength to stay true longer--giving you better sounding drums longer.
